Magnolia Shorty was a talented female rapper straight out of New Orleans and she was just as fire as her male-counterparts at Cash Money Records. She was known as the “Queen of Bounce” and had quite the following in Louisiana and Down South.
She dominated Bounce music which is a particular genre of music popular in New Orleans and surrounding areas. She was one of the first female artists to sign with Cash Money records well before the likes of Nicki Minaj and with the potential to be just as big as a Minaj.
Magnolia Shorty was on her way to the top but tragically her life was cut short December 20, 2010. She was shot in the parking lot of her apartment complex in a drive by shooting. She was only 28 years old. Her real name was Renetta Lowe, but she was given her name by SoulJa Slim who was also known as Magnolia Slim, hence why he named her Magnolia Shorty.
So while her death is a tragedy, I would like to take a moment to honor Renetta Lowe for the mark she made on this planet while she was here. Check out her music:
